how to visit mount titlis from Zurich

If you are in Switzerland, then Mount Titlis is a must to visit. It is not very far from Zurich or Lucerne. In this post, we are going to show you how to visit Mount Titlis in Switzerland from Zurich. We recommend visiting Titlis for a one day trip from Zurich. We have visited Titlis both in summer and autumn. Titlis is gorgeous at both times. The view is stunning from Lucerne to Titlis. In my opinion, the best time to be in Titlis is from June to August.

Why to visit Mount Titlis

Titlis is famous for its rotating cable car, cliff walk, Ice flyer, Ice cave and many snow activities.

A very important tip for your trip is that your phone may die at Titlis due to very low temperature so don’t forget to carry your camera or extra battery to take photos.

How to visit Mount Titlis from Zurich

Let’s start from the beginning in the morning at our hotel in Zurich. I suggest being flexible about your Titlis trip. Keep an eye on the weather, local news and most importantly, live webcam. Based on the forecast, you may have to change your plan. You need a sunny morning (at least for a few hours) in Titlis. You can enjoy Titlis in sunny weather. After wakeup in the morning, the first thing we did was check the webcam. It was a lovely sunny day in Titlis. The journey time from Zurich HB to Titlis is around 2 hours.

From Zurich to Titlis by Train

We started from our hotel at around 8.30 am to catch the 9 am train from Zurich HB to Lucerne. It was a 40 minutes journey. After that, you will get another train to the magnificent Engelberg village from another platform for another 40 minutes journey. After getting down at Engelberg, you will get a free bus service to the Titlis ropeway. My advice is to walk. It was a superb 10-15 min walk to the ropeway ticket counter. There is a good Indian restaurant there to get some energy before you start your next journey by the ropeway. You need to purchase your ticket from the counter and be ready to get down in one of the ropeways.

Don’t forget to show your passes to get a discount. Usually, you will get a whole coach for your family. The ropeway has a stop in between, don’t get down there; we will get down at that stop upon returning to take some stunning picture.

After getting down from the ropeway, you need to take the rotating cable car to reach the peak of the Titlis mountain. It is a 360-degree rotating big glass room that carries all the people to the top.

There are many food options at that top including Asian and European foods. So you will have your lunch there.

Titlis Ice cave:

You may take a trip inside the Titlis ice cave. This beautiful cave having a temperature below the freezing point is over 5000 years old.

Cliff Walk:

It is the highest suspension bridge in Europe having a glorious view of the glacier.

Ice Flyer:

You need to purchase a separate ticket for the Ice flyer. But it is worth taking it. You will get all snow activities after getting down at the next stop by ice flyer. It was an amazing experience hanging from the rope and of course the activities.

Titlis and Cinema:

There is a huge cutout of Indian superstar Shahrukh Khan and Kajol there to take a photo.

We have finished our day at around 3 pm, roamed around the beautiful village of Engelberg and took the train to Lucerne to spend the evening in the beautiful old city.
